Chairwear was established 20 years ago by designer and founder Kate Nason. An art historian by training with a passion for interior design and patternmaking, she made her first slipcover 24 years ago after her kids made a mess of her gorgeous linen couch. Soon, friends and family began clamoring for her help in transforming their tired chairs and sofas.

By the time she moved to Portland in 1994 she knew she wanted to turn her skill into a business. Since then Chairwear has been providing all manner of soft furnishings to clients in Portland and beyond. Oregon Home dubbed Kate the "Queen of the Slipcover".

Prior to moving to Portland, Kate earned a degree in Art History at UCLA and promptly fled to Italy where she lived for two years. Upon her return she enjoyed fifteen years in a career in the L.A. art scene. When she’s not whipping up something in the shop she loves dancing the tango, gardening and riding her bicycle.
